Le Fucine Hotel & Spa (UD)
In Buttrio, the eco resort is a tribute by the Danieli Group to the visionary entrepreneurial culture of Adriano Olivetti inspired by the naturalistic and enogastronomic genius loci of the "City of Wine" and by the Sixties avant-garde design.
Le Fucine was born from the desire of the Danieli Group from Buttrio, a leading company in green plants for the steel industry (thus the naming Fucine, which is forge in English), to translate both their love for the territory and the enlightened vision of “Cultural Factory” in the manner of Adriano Olivetti into a high-end hospitality project.
The project was born with a vision of sustainable continuity between the structure and the surrounding environment, both in terms of shapes and materials used and cultural osmosis with Buttrio. Called the “City of Wine”, it is located in the hills of the Colli Orientali del Friuli and a few steps from Collio, known throughout the world for the superior quality of its wines.
Le Fucine is a place where ideas are created, minds and ingenuity are shaped…a forge of poets, artists, scientists, cooks and craftsmen.
With this spirit, in the 1960s Danieli, right in front of its historic headquarters, commissioned the famous Friulian architect Marcello D’Olivo to design an avant-garde structure intended for refueling.
It is from this work that the development of Corte delle Fucine symbolically starts which, opened in 2022, today consists of a 4-Star Superior hotel, a gourmet restaurant and a brasserie, a business centre, a gym, and a beauty & wellness area.
The project, designed by Marco Zito in collaboration with Studio Artico and Fracassi, put the structure in liaison with the nearby territory.
For the interior design, for instance, furniture and accessories from local companies were chosen – such as Bross di Moimacco, LaCividina di Martignacco, Moroso di Tavagnacco, Mattiazzi di S. Giovanni al Natisone, and Potocco di Manzano – highlighting cult models of leading designers such as of Gio Ponti, Pierre Paulin and Patricia Urquiola.
A genius loci that has also translated into the choice of natural materials and neutral colors in dialogue with the surrounding landscape and the artworks created by artist Massimo Gardone of the Azimut studio in Trieste, such as the photographic prints of the series “Herbarium” and “Little seas”.
The heart of Le Fucine is the Fogolâr, characterized by seats by Moroso and a spectacular design fireplace in the centre of the space, the perfect place for aperitifs and after-dinner drinks.
The offer of a real Made in FVG design ecosystem is completed by the Le Fucine Gourmet Restaurant, headed by Chef Andrea Fantini, which offers the best of local products and wines, and the Brasserie, with a more traditional proposal.
While, next to the main structure, the 60ies service station designed by Marcello D’Olivo, also renovated, houses Le Fucine Caffè & Bistrot, perfect for a more informal break.
There are 64 rooms, from singles to spacious suites, and they offer all comforts, as well as a pleasant view of the internal courtyard; also perfect for starting the day right with breakfast on the private terrace based on sweet proposals prepared fresh every morning and the best savory products, from cold cuts to local cheeses.
The Wellness Area is beautiful, also open to non-guests of the structure, which offers treatment cabins, saunas, Turkish bath, outdoor jacuzzi and a gym for those who want to keep fit even when they are travelling.
An evolving structure, open to any kind of events, which will soon see the inauguration of a Sporting Club and Beauty Center which will thus complete the concept “The Art of Living”. Also the perfect starting point to visit the main tourist destinations of Friuli Venezia Giulia such as Collio, Aquileia and Trieste.
The Secret
At the entrance of the Hotel, you can admire “The Bull” by the artist Pietro De Tommaso, who passed away in 2021. The president of the Danieli group, who fell in love with the work, wanted it to be reproduced 20 times larger and positioned in the external square of Le Fucine, depicting the proud animal that looks forward, like someone who faces things head-on.
