Osteria Altran (UD)
In the Friulian countryside between Udine and Trieste, a splendid English-style country residence, awarded a Michelin star since 2003, a point of reference not only for its renowned cuisine but also for a fine hospitality made up of elegant details and always lit fireplaces.
The Friulian countryside can be very chic. Of that elegance made of unexhibited gestures, of objects that are precious because they have been handed down, of the noble work of man.
Osteria Altran was born in 2001 from a solid relationship of esteem and friendship between Guido Lanzellotti, its perfect host, and the chef Alessio Devidè, who trained at a very young age in the most renowned starred kitchens of the time, from Gualtiero Marchesi to Heinz Beck.
We try to make our guests feel really special, the real joy is not those who come to our restaurant, but those who return.
(Guido Lanzellotti)
Guido and his family, after a change of life, had just purchased the large farm that now houses Osteria Altran (that keeps the surname of the previous owners) and it seemed natural to him to propose Alessio the helm of his future restaurant.
What they could not imagine at the time is that, in its current guise since 2002 and awarded a solid Michelin star since 2003, Osteria Altran would become one of the longest-running “culinary” partnerships in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The secret of its success is due to the talent of Alessio, who here was able to develop his own identity made up of dishes that interpret local recipes with incredible mastery, but also to the visionary spirit of Guido who, already in the 2000s, had intuited the importance of offering its guests a 360° experience, not only tp the palate, therefore, but also to the sight.
For this reason, he gave life to what was a revolutionary idea for the time, forging his restaurant around the dream of his ideal home and populating it with the things dear to him. The Osteria presents itself today, in fact, as a welcoming country house, which combines the charm of local history with British touches, where you feel truly pampered.
An interior design that has been enriched over the years with many works of art and vintage furnishings and which culminated in 2022 with the creation of a new and beautiful library room that joins the other two lounge corners with a fireplace, perfect for a long after-dinner based on artisanal spirits.
As per the restaurant spaces, the Blue Room, with elegant indigo walls and just 5 cozy tables, is located in the charming old stables of the farm, whilst the Yellow Room is dedicated to accommodating larger groups of guests.
The raw material is excellent, the best from the Upper Adriatic sea to the mountains of Carnia, with some valuable incursions such as truffles or caviar, which Alessio works with incredible taste and lightness to create creative dishes that refer to Friulian traditions such as the mosaic of meat, green sauce and capricciosa salad, inspired by boiled meats with green sauce, or the guinea fowl stuffed with porcini mushrooms, green polenta and whipped abulfera sauce.
The menu changes often, based on seasonality and the creative flair of the chef and is accompanied by an important wine list that highlights the wonderful labels of Friuli Venezia Giulia and in particular of Collio.
Surrounded by greenery, during the summer it is possible to eat under the portico overlooking the farmyard of the Osteria, while in the colder months, it is priceless to ask that the dessert with coffee be served in front of the fireplace, where you can indulge in very pleasant conversations with Guido.
Osteria Altran is one of those precious and timeless places that do not follow trends and, precisely for this reason, are trendier than ever.
